The doctor is not only in, she’s staying and getting a promotion!
Gotham has formally upgraded Morena Baccarin to a series regular ahead of the show’s upcoming second season, TVLine has learned exclusively.
The Homeland alumna joined Fox’s Batman origin story in January in the the role of Dr. Leslie Thompkins, a love interest for Ben McKenzie’s James Gordon. The recurring gig included a Season 2 series-regular option, which the show has now decided to exercise.

Comments Off on Morena Baccarin Confirmed as Copycat in Deadpool!
via Coming Soon:
It’s finally chimichanga time for 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise spinoff Deadpool as production begins in Vancouver on the feature film starring Ryan Reynolds as the “merc with a mouth”. Hot on the heels of this morning’s reveal that T.J. Miller will be playing Weasel comes confirmation that Morena Baccarin will be playing “Vanessa,” who is almost certainly the comics’ Vanessa Geraldine Carlysle, also known as the shapeshifting mutant Copycat. Baccarin herself made the reveal via Twitter and the below image of her on-set chair back. Reynolds also posted an image of his own chair and you can also check it out below.

Comments Off on Morena cancels Toronto ComiCon due to Deadpool filming commitments
from Toronto ComicCon’s website:
We’re sorry to announce Morena Baccarin won’t be attending Toronto ComiCon.
She did her absolute best to work around her Deadpool filming schedule. She understands that she’s missed the last few shows and is very sorry she won’t be here to meet you all. We wish her the best and look forward to seeing her on the big screen (and hopefully soon at Fan Expo)!
via Entertainment Weekly:
It looks like the Merc with a Mouth is going to have to talk his way into Morena Baccarin’s heart.
EW can confirm that Baccarin has been cast in Fox’s upcoming Deadpool film alongside Ryan Reynolds. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news.
Baccarin will play a currently unnamed character who is falling in love with Deadpool, which can’t be easy considering his penchant for violence, cursing, and a diet almost exclusively made up of chimichangas. Whether or not the two’s relationship works out, it will hopefully at least result in a marriage that mirrors the cover of a Deadpool comic from last year.
She joins a cast that includes T.J. Miller and Gina Carano, who were also recently brought onto the project.
Baccarin is no stranger to the comic book universe, having recently put in guest spots on Gotham and The Flash—though only her voice has appeared on the latter.
Deadpool is set to release sometime in early 2016, which would put it in theaters ahead of the next major X-Men installment, X-Men: Apocalypse, debuting on May 27, 2016.
via IGN:
FOX’s Gotham kicks off the second half of its first season on Monday, January 5th with the episode “Rogues’ Gallery.” And while Jim Gordon’s (Ben McKenzie) partnership with Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) might be over, a new one is beginning with Arkham Asylum’s Dr. Leslie Thompkins – played by Firefly/Homeland’s Morena Baccarin.
I recently spoke with Baccarin, who’d just started filming her role at the time, about playing (a younger version of) a famous Batman comic book character, the look of Arkham Asylum’s interior on the show, and why Dr. Leslie pairs up so well with Jim Gordon.
IGN: What can you tell us about the Dr. Leslie character you’re playing? She’s obviously a younger version of the one comic book fans know. How close will she be to the source material?
Morena Baccarin: Yeah. They’re not sticking too close to the original mythology from the comics. Basically she and Jim meet at Arkham Asylum where he winds up working after the last episode. And they sort of hit it off because they’re both two people who are trying to do the right thing in a city that’s corrupt. And, like him, she’s someone who doesn’t really stand for bulls***. She’s very pragmatic and isn’t fazed by the craziness of Gotham. So they’re pretty drawn to each other and they wind up teaming up.

Comments Off on Dr. Leslie Thompkins meets Jim Gordon in exclusive ‘Gotham’ sneak peek
The video won’t embed, so view it at the source!
When Gotham returns, Jim Gordon will be swapping his detective badge for a blue uniform … and a new relationship? It’s possible.
Now working at Arkham, Jim quickly meets Dr. Leslie Thompkins, played by Morena Baccarin. And according to Baccarin, they start out as friends, but that’s not to say they won’t become more than that. “He’s a very complicated man,” she said with a laugh.
But despite the secrecy around the details of their relationship, fans can definitely expect to see Leslie team up with Jim, rather than with the Wayne family—a departure from how her character was portrayed in the comics. “I’m a physician. I’m working at Arkham, but we’re not sticking too close to the original mythology,” Baccarin said. “We are having her team up with Jim Gordon instead of the Wayne family and Bruce. Eventually, who knows—it could go in that direction, but it hasn’t yet.”
Although fans will see her run into a few of their other favorite characters, Baccarin says Leslie will spend most of her time with Jim, both inside and outside of Arkham. “She gets out [of Arkham] which is really fun and her and Jim kind of pair up and have this really great relationship. I think it’s important. Arkham is a really kind of iconic and dark and crazy world but I don’t think you want to spend too much time in there,” she said. “Jim finds an ally in her, which I think is important for him at this point. He’s beaten down by the system and he’s been fighting this one-man operation to make Gotham not as corrupt. I think it’s really important that he finds that relationship in Leslie.”
So how exactly does Leslie help Jim? Baccarin said her character would “like to believe” she has a vigilante side, “and we’ll see how that pans out. She definitely can get down and dirty. She’s inquisitive and interested and I think wants to get her hands dirty and wants to get in there with Jim so I think it’s not completely out of the question that she has a little bit of that side to her.” More generally, Baccarin described Leslie as “Somebody who’s very no-bullshit, speaks her mind. She’s not pulled in by the craziness, corruption of Gotham. She’d rather live in a better world [but] she’s also very unfazed by the craziness of Gotham and Arkham.”
And with that attitude, Baccarin did tease that Leslie will butt heads with someone at the GCPD, though she claimed it’s not a big deal. “She’s just one of those people who doesn’t take shit,” she said. “She doesn’t really care what anybody thinks. She’s a good person. She doesn’t do anything terrible, but she’s not going to cater to stupid people, so it can be disarming but it can also be infuriating to certain people.”
Gotham returns Monday, Jan. 5 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
