The Bible gave Dinah just one brief line, but in Lifetime’s The Red Tent, it’s her voice that dominates.
In the exclusive trailer above, Dinah’s voice is the first thing we hear. “For thousands of years, I have been lost,” she says. “My tale begins with the red tent.” That titular red tent is where women gathered while menstruating or giving birth. There, they gossiped, supported one another, and passed down wisdom.
The trailer focuses more on Dinah’s passionate relationship with Prince Shalem (Sean Teale), and the ensuing violence when he is accused of defiling her.
Glimpses of a bloody Dinah (Rebecca Ferguson, The White Queen), Minnie Driver as Leah, Morena Baccarin as Rachel, and Game of Thrones star Iain Glen as Jacob flash as the Civil Wars’s haunting song “Devil’s Backbone” plays in the background. The lyrics are strikingly appropriate, if you know Dinah’s story: “Oh Lord, Oh Lord, what have I done? I’ve fallen in love with a man on the run.”
The Red Tent’s two-night event airs Dec. 7 and 8.
