NBC is developing a series set to star Morena Baccarin, Variety has learned. She is also attached as an executive producer.

While the series is in early development with just a script commitment, should the project be greenlit at NBC, Baccarin would become a recurring character on Fox’s “Gotham,” on which she currently stars. She would continue to have a presence on “Gotham” for as long as the series is on the air, and will not be written out. If the NBC series is not greenlit, she will remain a series regular.

The NBC show follows a former police officer turned high-powered attorney, played by Baccarin (the character’s name is also Morena), who navigates the ever-changing landscape of New York City politics, law enforcement and the justice system, all while juggling a complicated personal life.

The project hails from writer Ken Sanzel (“Blue Bloods,” “Numb3rs”), who will exec produce with Tony Krantz, Elliot Halpern and Baccarin. Co-exec producers are Drew Comins, Sarah Jackson and Elizabeth Trojian. ITV Studios, Flame Venture and Over the Pond Production are producing.

For Baccarin, the project would mark her latest starring network role, following ABC’s sci-fi drama “V,” which ran for two seasons from 2009 to 2011. After “V,” she starred on “Homeland,” which landed her an Emmy nomination. She is also known from “Stargate,” plus “Firefly” and the follow-up film “Serenity.” Aside from “Gotham,” she recently had an arc on “The Flash,” and also starred in Ryan Reynolds’ box office smash “Deadpool.” She is repped by UTA.
